Book Tag #1: The Reading Habits Book Tag

So, I decided to do my very first book tag! 🙂 I first saw this tag on Youtube and then some of my book blogger friends started doing it, and it seems like a fun tag to do so I decided to shamelessly tag myself and give this one a go. 😀

Originally created by Booktuber The Book Jazz, The Reading Habits Book Tag is about answering questions that will tell how, when and where you mostly read. 🙂 By answering the questions, we might learn what weird things other readers do. Here’s the original video.

Everything you have ever wanted, is sitting on the other side of fear. (1)

Now onto the questions. 🙂

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
None. I can read almost anywhere at home but I prefer spots where I won’t tend to lie down because when I lie down I tend to just drift off and eventually fall asleep. 😀

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
I do have a few bookmarks, most were given to me, but I seldom use them. I am not much into bookmarks basically, so a random piece of paper, post-its, a grocery receipt, a bus ticket or even none is fine with me. If you think that I dog-ear my books, NO.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?
For someone who seldom use bookmarks, I prefer to stop at every end of a chapter even for books that have longer chapters.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
No. It’s hard to eat or drink and read at the same time. And besides, I’m afraid of spilling something into my books. Imagine the horror if it happened. 😀

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
Call me weird but I really can’t read properly when the TV is not on or there’s no music in the background. I just can’t focus when it’s too quiet. I have always been like this ever since. When I was still studying, instead of reviewing in a quiet room, I review in our living room where my family watches TV. 😀

6. One book at a time or several at once?
I stick to one book at a time. I always make sure to finish what I am currently reading before starting a new one. Reading 2 or more books at a time, for me, removes some of of what I call reading pleasures. I take my time and enjoy my own pace.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?
I can read everywhere. I always take a book with me wherever I go. There’s something comforting of having a book near me at all times. 🙂

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
Silently. For parts that I can’t understand, it works for me when I read it aloud though. Reading aloud helps me concentrate if I can’t get into what I’m reading.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
I avoid reading ahead or skipping pages. It’s my way of respecting the author and the book. If I can’t finish it, I just set it aside. I also don’t DNF books. I always force my way through and just reserve my opinion about it until the very end.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
I have my fair share of books that came from second-hand book shops that were well-loved, with folds and creases all over and I love them the same. I am not so particular into buying books with spine creases (It’s just that when I am at a second-hand book shop, I ask myself, who in the world breaks the spine of their babies!) but if I buy a new book, like literally a new book, I make sure to keep it like new. I am always very careful not to break the spines of my new books. And this is also one of the reason why I’m afraid to lend them. Sorry. 🙂

11. Do you write in your books?
Nope. Nope. Just nope. Even highlighting some lines of my book is just a big No! I like to keep the pristine condition of my new books as much as possible.

12. Who do you tag?
I want to tag this awesome bookish people. #Tagathon 😀

  1. Thanks for the tag. I love the questions and a lot of my answers are going to match up with yours. I can’t eat or drink when I read because the fear of spillage is all to real. I freaked when a drop of tea landed on my book one and I can’t have that happen again, it’s far too traumatizing haha.

  2. Thank you so much for the tag, Mark! 🙂 I actually have already done this tag (maybe a year ago?) but it’s still an honor. I share many of the same habits as you, aside from reading only one book at a time (it’s normal for me to be reading four or five books at once, haha).
